The need to scale up rural mental health services in Africa
Afri-Impact chanced upon the Strong Minds project which is doing valuable work in community mental health care provision in Uganda.
Their primary focus is on women with clinical depression. The importance of focusing on women with clinical depression in Africa cannot be over-emphasized. Women are a critical source of support for their families and play a very important and strategic role in many African communities.
The intervention employed with these women is called Group Interpersonal Therapy and Strong Minds' objective is to establish the efficacy of this intervention, its scalability to a wider population and its overall sustainability in the long term.
It is worth keeping an intervention such as this as well as its possibilities in view, as Africa and other Global Health stake holders strive to solve Africa's most intractable health care provision challenges in an effective and sustainable way.comments powered by Disqus
