Agape Medical Missions
Agape ministries medical mission is a charity currently working in Nigeria and is focussed on providing holistic care including treatment, counselling and signposting for different childhood illnesses. It has done its work in partnership with a local hospital, the Presbyterian joint Hospital (PJHU) in Uburu, South Eastern Nigeria. The charity which is run by U.K qualified medical doctors, including a trained paediatrician has also crucially been involved in sustainable health worker training, and has run 'basic paediatric life support' courses for health workers.
Agape Medical Missions have also been able to engage in donating medical and dental equipment, as well as mattresses, bed sheets and pillowcases for use on the children's wards, to PJHU.
The charity has fed children and vulnerable patients for the duration of their missions, and this has proved very popular!
A fundamental challenge experienced by Agape Medical Missions in its quest to impart sustainable training has been the lack of medical staff in the rural hospital it partners with. The situation is made worse by the rural location of the hospital it partners with, with the result that younger members of staff do not tend to work for very long for the hospital.
